Stitch Fix:: The First Reveal - Guest Blog by @itsCaitlinP

After hearing some buzz around Stitch Fix for over a year, I decided to give it a go. I had been burned in the past by monthly online subscription services that left me disappointed and frustrated. Seeing as Stitch Fix isn’t exactly a subscription service, and after being encouraged by some friends who are current users, I figured the most I could lose out on was the $20 styling fee. The best part? I could order whenever I wanted, as few times as I wanted - there was no year commitment to the service. However, if you’re feeling brave, you can commit to the automatic monthly subscription plan.

Cue setup! I diligently started to fill out my Stitch Fix profile (this part is crucial to getting what you really want) and I was ready to go. I made sure to go the extra mile and connect my “Dream Closet” Pinterest board to my account for reference. Upon completion, I was asked to leave a last final note for my stylist to work with. This is where I got even more granular. I live in Wisconsin, where the weather is already colder. I made sure to advise my stylist I did not want any shorts, tanks or dresses, and that I’d prefer pieces I can layer. My delivery was scheduled about two weeks from when I submitted my request, but you can pick whatever day you want.

You might be wondering what costs are associated right off the bat. The only charge applied to your credit card is the $20 styling fee, which will be credited back to your order and taken off your bill if you decide to keep a piece. If you dislike the pieces and send them all back, you will lose that $20 styling service fee.

While I waited, I did end up tweaking my note a few times. I was walking around downtown Milwaukee and saw a girl with a cute over-sized chunky sweater, so I added that as a request to my Fix. You can edit your note as many times as you want, and Stitch Fix will let you know when it’s time to stop tinkering. This was great for my indecisiveness ;) it also allowed me to add a few more pins to my board.

Now, time for the fix reveal! If you see anything that you like below, feel free to ask your stylist in the notes section of your next fix for something similar!

all pieces.JPG
41Hawthorn Rosa Tab Sleeve V-Neck Blouse - Size Small, $58.00
Pros: The color and the fit.
Cons: The price and the style.
Kept? No

green

My stylist hit the nail on the head right out of the gate. I love flowy shirts that can pair with skinnies or a skirt, so I can see why she picked this piece for me. It’s exactly the color and style of shirts I buy. Unfortunately, that’s the same reason it led me to not keep it. It’s a style very similar to one I already own and I don’t need a duplicate at the price of $58.00.

Bay to Baubles Judah Crystal Cluster Necklace - Size Small, $42.00
Pros: Can you say, sparkly!?
Cons: None
Kept? Yes

bauble.jpg

I liked this bauble before I even took it out of the box, and knew I would be keeping it regardless of price. I have been looking for a new chunky bauble to add with my fall/winter wardrobe, and this one crossed my wish off the list. It’s not too heavy, can be adjusted to many lengths and feels to be at the quality level of a piece from JCrew.

Just Black Dean Skinny Jean - Size 4, $78.00
Pros: Fit, fit, fit!
Cons: Price
Kept? No

pants1.JPG pants2.jpg

Another piece I absolutely loved was this pair of black skinny jeans with the bronze ankle zippers. The fit was a dream the second I put them on, and the quality was higher than something I normally buy. Bonus: they are made in the USA! Being shorter, I rarely find the right length in my pants first round. This is another ode to how awesome my stylist listened to my requests. However, when it came down to it, I’ve never spent $80 on a pair of skinnies. I couldn’t justify myself to start now, but I definitely spent some time debating back and forth. I decided to wait and see what my second fix would bring me next round before I committed, and noted the brand and size in the meantime in case I ever got buyer's remorse.

THML Mackey Open Cardigan - Size Small, $88.00
Pros: Warm, versatility for fall/winter.
Cons: Itchy, overly bulky and price.
Kept? No

cardigan2.JPG

This was another item my stylist listened to me loud and clear on, but in the end, it just didn’t work out. The price played a factor in that decision, and the fabric wasn’t as soft and cozy as I hoped for. I also felt the back collar creep up too high around my neck, leaving me a little itchy.

Market & Spruce Cordelia Striped Boat Neck Sweater - Size Small, $58.00
Pros: Quality, layering piece
Cons: None
Kept? Yes

striped

The final piece was one I could justify spending the money on. As something that can be worn multiple ways with a dress shirt underneath and a pop of unexpected color, I was hooked. This was perfect for my laid-back work dress code and I liked the color so it didn’t limit me to just plain colored jeans.

My Final Thoughts
Overall, I think my stylist did an amazing job of listening to all my requests! I would’ve easily kept all my pieces if they were more around the $50 mark or under. I would like to note that I did specify this in the drop down options of my profile (my selection was “The Cheaper The Better!”). It was a little disappointing because I fell in love with all the pieces but couldn’t justify the cost, even with the 25% off discount when you keep all 5 of your pieces. It still left my total at $223.00, which I was not prepared to spend on my very first fix. I will definitely be ordering a second fix soon, and will emphasis my budget in my note to the stylist.

Gift Guide For the Host: All Under $60!

NORDSTROM.com

Now that the Holidays are slowly creeping up on us, you'll probably start seeing a lot of different gift guides to make your Holiday shopping a little bit more easy! (or so I hope so!) Getting invited to a party always raises that one question, "what should I bring for the host?"  I believe that when attending a party at someones house, you should always bring a small gift to show appreciation.  It doesn't have to cost a ton, but it is a super nice and thoughtful gesture!  I found all of my hostess gifts at Nordstrom this year... who knew they had the cutest little gifts!?  My favorite is this sequin accent pillow and this 'booze' decanter.  Of course, all of my choices are white and gold... you should see my condo... but there are tons and tons of other super cute gift choices at here!

Happy Hosting!

It is SO gloomy in Chicago today, all I want to do is cuddle up on the couch, watch some Christmas movies and drink hot cocoa! This time of the year is my favorite for doing all of the above, but it's also one of my favorite times to stroll around the city looking at all the Christmas lights and decorations! The Perfect Holiday Outfit...

NORDSTROM - Shop Burberry Winter 2015 Gifts

With the Holiday season right around the corner,  I've started thinking about outfits that would be perfect for a family party, a work party or even just a Holiday party with friends.  Black and nude are two of my favorite colors when it comes to putting together an outfit.  Both colors can be dressed up or down, and is so transitional for bringing in other colors or patterns, so those can be the main focal point.  As much as I love my sweatpants and Lulu leggings, who doesn't love getting dressed up once in a while?  Getting dressed up and going to a Holiday party is one big part of winter that I look forward to, especially when you have the winters like we do!

I am obsessed with this outfit and put it together because it incorporates everything that I love.  Feathers, leopard, black, gold, pink and studded heels! I would totally wear this to my Holiday work party (it depends on where you work, I work in a super laid-back office) or to a family Christmas party!  The plum lipstick and blush is the perfect touch to the gold/black details.
