Faux Fur Sweater

SWEATER: Shein // JEANS: Topshop // BOOTS: Sold out, Similar HERE // BAG: GiGi New York // SUNGLASSES: Francesca's

Happy Monday!! Since it's still rather cold (and rainy) in Chicago, I've been wearing this adorable sweater on repeat lately.  I love how it's under $30 and definitely a statement piece, with the fur and crystal detailing! I wore this sweater out for brunch and for running errands, but it could also be dressed up for going out! I am a big fan of wearing white pants in the winter, but this looks just as cute with a pair of dark denim or even a denim skirt.  This sweater only comes in one size, but I want to say it fits probably like a typical Medium.  I really liked how it's on the looser side because it's so soft and comfy!!

I hope everyone has a great week! xoxo

Wedding Dress Try-On with Stella York

Happy Wednesday, everyone! Today's post is super exciting because I finally get to show you all my experience trying on wedding dresses for the first time! I literally had no idea what style dress I wanted before I went to try them on, and decided not to even look at dresses on Pinterest or research different styles because I knew I would end up liking something completely different, so this was all completely new to me!  I set up my appointment with the Crystal Bride in Geneva, IL (about 40 minutes outside of Chicago) and immediately felt at ease the moment I walked in the door.

I mean, how gorgeous is this store?! I loved all the chandeliers and girly accents... and the lighting was on point, especially for getting a perfect look at the dresses.

I tried on an array of different styles, colors, and accessories, but I really wanted to show you guys a couple dresses I tried on by Stella York.  Stella York dresses are meant to be fun, flirty and fabulous... and that they are.  Every single dress I've seen by her, I am so impressed by the quality and detail that's put into each and every gown.  It was honestly almost impossible to decide because they all were so beautiful! The thing I love about Stella York is that she makes everything from ballgowns to sheath (and everything in between) and most dresses come in different colors, so they're super customizable to your liking.

The first dress I tried on was this gorgeous Simple Ballgown (Style 6634) dress with beaded straps.  This silhouette is so classic and has a dreamy modern feel... and an added plus: pockets!! Another thing I really loved was the button detailing that ran all the way down the train.  I am a huge fan of a long train, so this one was perfect and would definitely be a showstopper down the aisle.

The second dress I tried on was this gorgeous Open Back Wedding Dress (Style 6612).  This dress is an A-line silhouette that has a glitzy and glamorous feel due to the gorgeous lace and crystal beaded detailing.  I really liked this dress because of how comfortable it was on the body and the sequin tulle skirt.  This dress comes in 3 different colors (the one I have on is called Moscato), so if you'd rather have ivory or white that's also an option!  I was also in love with the train on this one.  It's definitely not as long as the first option, but it would be the perfect option for adding a cathedral veil.

Lastly but definitely not least, was this gorgeous Simple and Sleek Wedding gown (Style 6648), which comes in 6 different colors!  At first, I did not think I would like a sheath style dress, nor would I have even tried one on but I decided to give it a try and I was not disappointed!  This dress consists of a matte lace and silk crepe fabric with a plunging V-neckline and a deep-V illusion back.  I was really drawn to a lot of dresses with the illusion look, so I loved the back of this dress so much.  Also, how about that train?! The lace detailing on the train was absolutely stunning.  I am most likely planning to wear my hair down, so I believe this dress would be perfect for any hairstyle!

As you can see from all 3 of these styles, Stella York truly goes above and beyond to make sure all of her dresses are made to be elegant, yet sexy and has the perfect option for every bride to be.  I had such a great experience trying on these dresses at the Crystal Bride, as they give you the attention and service one would hope to get when shopping for one of the most important days of your life.  I felt super comfortable there and felt the staff was extremely knowledgeable about all of the dresses, which is super important.

I would love to know which one is your favorite and what dress you could see me in!  I definitely feel more confident and feel like I have a better idea of which style I am leaning towards, but I would love to know your opinions as well!  xoxo

Valentine's Day Gifts with Woodfield Mall

Happy Friday! With Valentine's day just around the corner, I decided to head over to my absolute favorite mall to stock up on some fun Valentine's day gifts.  Living in downtown Chicago, I am pretty spoiled with the endless amount of stores steps away from my condo... but there is something refreshing and fun about getting a car and driving out to the suburbs to shop at Woodfield Mall.  If you've been following me for a while, then you know I've talked about Woodfield in the past when I did my Father's day shopping there.  Woodfield Mall is located about 30 minutes northwest of downtown Chicago (on a good traffic day!) and has over 300 shops and restaurants.  I used to come down to shop this mall in High School because they had so many more stores than I was used to be, being from Wisconsin.

My first stop to stock up on Valentine's day gifts for girlfriends and family was Lululemon.  Lululemon is my favorite store for finding girly gifts because you can get anything from fun workout pants to adorable headbands and yoga mats. What girl wouldn't want a pretty little gift from Lululemon under their Valentines day tree?! :) There are so many new pretty colors in the spring line, my favorite being all the pastel leggings!

For him, I always gravitate towards the Tommy Bahama store (Lululemon and Tommy Bahama are right next to each other, so it's super convenient!) to buy shorts for spring and the softest tees.  My fiance loves the t-shirts, so I love to stock up on them when I'm there.  I also found that there were so many different gift ideas for her as well.  The new candle line is ahhhhmazing.  They were burning one in the store that literally smelled like a Caribbean vacation... so I bought one in every scent (pineapple cilantro is my fav!)

If you live in or near Chicago, make sure to head to Woodfield Mall to buy your Valentine's day gifts before it's too late... don't forget Valentine's Day is on Wednesday, February 14th!!

Does anyone have any fun plans?! xoxo

Valentine's Day Looks

Happy Friday!! With Valentine's day just around the corner (10 days to be exact!) I wanted to share with you all some perfect Valentine's day outfits to celebrate the day of love.  I know a lot of people view Valentine's day as just a Hallmark card holiday, which may be true... however I think it's a fun excuse to put on a cute little dress, a red lip and celebrate over dinner (in a restaurant or even at home!) and a bottle of nice wine.  I am also a huge fan of red and pink, so anytime I get the chance to wear it, I jump on it!

All of these dresses would be absolutely perfect, and would also double for any amazing wedding guest dress- or even bridal shower outfit!  I absolutely love the lace detailing on this one and this one, and love the clean look of this one.  The Self Portrait is definitely a splurge, but is one of the best fitting dresses I have ever come across-- a must have staple, that you'll continue to wear over and over again!

Does anyone have any fun plans for Valentine's Day?  The fiance and I are going to a nice steak restaurant in the City, which I am super excited to try! xoxo

Best Romper for Spring!

ROMPER: Lilly Pulitzer (also HERE in other color) // SHOES: Jack Rogers // SUNGLASSES: Francesca's // EARRINGS: Lesi Lerch // BAG: Old, Similar HERE

Can you all tell by now that I am missing the warm weather?! My happy place is where/when I can wear bright colors and no layers... summer in Chicago can't come soon enough!

When I received this romper from Lilly Pulitzer, I immediately knew that this romper could be worn casually or dressed up... If you can't tell from the pictures, there is actually little gold detailing throughout that really brightens it up and makes it look more dressy!  I wore it out casually for a day of lunch with some Jack Rogers, but for night time could easily throw on some wedges for a night on the town.  I absolutely love this print, but it also comes in a pink/orange combo thats available both on the Lilly Pulitzer site and at Nordstrom!  I also wanted to talk to you all about these sunglasses... I don't know if you've noticed, but I've pretty much been wearing them non-stop.  I love Ray-ban's, and they are usually my go to, however I found these beauties for only $14 and they've been stuck on my face ever since!! I started to shy away from buying expensive designer sunglasses as I am always breaking or losing them... so many cute ones out there for under $25!!

Hope you all are having a great week!! xoxo

Non-Traditional Lilly Pulitzer

DRESS: Lilly Pulitzer // SHOES: Tory Burch // BAG: Sold out, Similar HERE // SUNGLASSES: Francesca's // EARRINGS: Lisi Lerch

Happy Monday, everyone! Sad the weekend is over, but lots to do this week! The weather was actually a lot warmer in Chicago this weekend (and today!) which made me really wish I was able to wear this pretty little dress again.  One of my favorite things about this dress is that it's a non-traditional Lilly Pulitzer style.  If you're familiar with the brand, you know that most are fun patterns in lots of bright colors.  Rarely ever do they do black prints, so when I came across this dress I knew I had to have it!  I would say that it does run a little bit big, especially in the chest area.  I got a Small, but could easily have worn an XS in this dress.  The length is perfect for everyone as well, as it hits right about the knee, keeping it pretty modest.  The material is super comfortable and really light weight- so perfect for a tropical vaca or throwing on in the summer for a day of shopping.  I also think a denim jacket would look adorable with it!

It's crazy to think Spring is just around the corner, and so many stores already are getting prepared.  Stay tuned for lots more Spring styles!! xoxo

Winter Skincare Survival Tips with Dove

Tracking Pixel
This post is sponsored by Dove.  As always, all opinions are my own.  Thank you for supporting brands that make Marvelous in the Midwest possible!

Ever since turning 30, I decided I really needed to step up my skincare routine.  I have always used basic products like face wash and moisturizer, but knew I really needed to start investing in some better quality products and focus on making it a daily occurrence.  Living in Chicago, the winter months take a toll on my skin.  With it being so cold 4-5 months out of the year, it can really do some major damage if you're not protecting it correctly.  I've learned the hard way that this can lead to cracking, itching, redness and sometimes even bleeding!  I teamed up with Dove, to give you some winter survival tips I learned from Dove's dermatologist, Dr. Alicia Barba.
1. Invest in a hydrating cleanser.  Dry skin, especially on the face, can feel super uncomfortable, annoying and even make it hard to apply makeup flawlessly. Using a hydrating cleanser and moisturizing 2x a day is key to making sure you have a hydrated and glowing face.

2. Stop exfoliating.  I know this sounds insane, but it's true! Over-exfoliating can strip the natural oils from your skin, leading to more breakouts in the dryer and colder months.  One misconception that many have is that rubbing off dead skin cells will improve skin, while in reality it's actually dehydrating it.  If you absolutely feel the need to exfoliate, try using a light exfoliating body wash instead.

3. Get into a bedtime routine. It may sound cliché, but bedtime is the best time for hydrating your skin! If you're looking to decrease collagen breakdown, consider these three steps recommended by Dr. Barba before crawling into bed: 1. Wash your face. 2. Apply a retinol. 3. Moisturize.  I promise, it only takes a total of 3 whole minutes!
4.  Sunscreen at all times- not just summer months!  I know so many people who don't use sunscreen in the winter, including me up to a few years ago. Harmful rays do not take a break in the winter, and can be just as harsh as in the summer! If you don't want to add in additional steps to your current routine, try switching to a moisturizer with SPF, which is a bit richer than your typical summer sunscreen. Sunscreen is a must for your face and any other areas exposed to the sun.  This is one tip I definitely wish I would have told myself to add in 10 years ago... start early!
5. Care for your underarms.  This is one area that cannot be seen, but definitely should not be overlooked! So many different textures and fabrics can be super irritating to your underarms, so you'll want to choose an antiperspirant that is hydrating and keeps you protected, Dr. Barba says. Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant is formulated with moisturizers to help alleviate some of that irritation that may occur and leave you with softer, smoother and better smelling underarms. Another plus is that it provides 48-hour odor and wetness protection... a win-win!

I hope these tips have helped in deciding what YOU will do to boost your skincare routine, let's not wait until it's to late to give your skin the love and protection it needs! Xoxo
